Salvador "Buddy" Ching graduated from high school at the University of Regina Carmeli in 1982. He then took up Fine Arts at the University of Santo Tomas where he majored in painting. Buddy has joined and brought home awards from the prestigious Metrobank Foundation Annual Art Competitions in 1987, 1996 and 1998.
He has made a name in the field of visual arts. His work won as Best Entry in the Black and White Drawing Category in the 52nd Art Association of the Philippines Annual Art Competition in 2002. In 2003, he placed third in the Mixed Media portion of the same competition.
He has mounted exhibitions at the Cultural Center of the Philippines where he recently presented "Eggcology", a striking exhibit on spiritual, environmental and political themes that drew critical raves from the media. His works have been exhibited in the galleries of DLSU-Manila, SM Megamall and the Bulacan Museum.
Buddy has also represented the country in art exhibits in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Cuba and South Korea.
Despite his busy schedule, Buddy is an active member of the Bahaghari ng Malolos - a visual arts society which he founded in 1994. He is also a regular resource person for the CCP-UNICEF Arts Therapy and Sining sa Eskwela workshops which render outreach services to children in the Visayas and Mindanao.
In all his undertakings, Salvador "Buddy" Ching is and will always remain a Carmelian, imparting his visual philosophy for the artistic development of young people in and outside of Bulacan. |
