URC BLIS Students Bag 3rd Notch in the 18th National PATLS LIS Wizard Competition Tuesday, December 01, 2009
The Philippine Association of Teachers of Library Information Science (PATLS), in its aim to make Library and Information Science (LIS) students more cognizant of the importance of mustering the contents of the core LIS subjects, conducted the 18th LIS Wizard Competition at the National Library Auditorium last November 17, 2009.
Rose Jasmin Catan and Johnlee Crisostomo, graduating Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) students of the University of Regina Carmeli (URC) in Malolos City, were adjudged third placers among representatives from 10 participating schools namely: Adventist University of the Philippines (AUP), Baliuag University (BU), National Teachers College (NTC), Philippine Normal University (PNU), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), University of the East (UE), University of the Philippines (UP), University of Sto. Tomas (UST), St. Paul University (SPU) and URC.
A total of 35 questions from 7 different categories – Library Management/Laws and Code of Ethics, Collection Management, Abstracting and Indexing, Cataloging and Classification, Reference Cources and Services, Information Communication and Technology and Current Events/General Information – were thrown to the contenders by Iya Buenrostro, the quiz master.
BU got the 1st place having had 24/35 correct answers, NTC followed suit with 23/35 points and URC with 21/35 points. The third notch has been gotten by URC after a tie-breaking match was held among the teams of URC, PNU and UST. It is noteworthy to mention that it was the very first time that URC was invited to join in the competition.
Judges were: Professors Candida C. Agcaoili, Rosalie B. Faderon and Ruben Marasigan. The event was also graced by PATLS officers: Vice-President, Ma. Arlene A. Marzo, PRO Nora J. Claravall, Chairman Christine B. Timoteo and ex-officio Chairman Vyra Victoria M. Aguirre, Professor Natalie N. dela Torre was the event’s master of ceremony.
