HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The University of Regina Carmeli, formerly Colegio de Nuestra del Carmen, is a co-educational Catholic institution established and administered by the Augustinian Sisters of Our Lady of Consolation. It came into existence in 1937. It was then the only educational institution in the locality.

In 1965 the need to open the college department was felt. Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (BSEED) and Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE) were opened under Government Permit T-768 s. 1965 and T-767 s. 1965. In 1968 these two programs were given full Government Recognition Nos. R-307 s. 1968 and R-308 s. 1968 respectively. The number of major offerings has gown through the yeas due to greater demands of industry. Today the University offers different fields of specialization.

In November of 1985, the determined efforts of the school to gain accreditation by the Philippine Association of Accrediting Schools, Colleges and University took a more decisive turn when the College of Education had its Preliminary Surveys until it gained its Level II Accreditation. At this time, the College of Education is continually keeping is level best to promote and provide quality education.

Today, the College of Education continues to commit itself to develop Filipino Christian graduates who are morally upright and imbued with ideals and aspirations in life.
