| OUTREACH PROGRAM
In 1987, University of Regina Carmeli transcended its
role as a teaching institution when it decided to play a more vigorous
role in helping the needy members of the community. The breakthrough
came when URC organized, and subsequently registered with the Securities
and Exchange Commission, the Mother Rita Barcelo Outreach and Livelihood
Corporation (MRBOLC). The MRBOLC is a private, non-stock Corporation
with a personality separate and distinct from that of University of Regina
Carmeli. It started out as the implementing arm of URC's community extension
services. Despite its distinct personality, it continues to have a direct
link with URC's educational apostolate by serving as a venue for the
actual application of students' learning through practicum, exposure
trips, and immersion activities. The OSA Congregation's call for social
transformation through service to the poor, struggling people, offers
deeper meanings and opportunities to students as their theoretical trainings
find social utility through their involvement in meaningful outreach
activities at the Mother Rita Barcelo Outreach and Livelihood Corporation.
