INTEGRAL EVANGELIZATION PROGRAM
The role of the Integral Evangelization Program in the
University has to be realized in the following:
- Knowing the Faith through Religious Education Ministry
- This area
involvers the Religion/Values Education Subjects of the Basic
Education Department and Theology Subjects of the College Department.
It includes Curricular formulation and development, evaluation
and
implementation of the scope and sequence of Religious/Values Education
and Theology
offerings.
- Rationale:
The formation of the Catholic Christian person, who is called to
be a true disciple of Jesus Christ, is a task and a challenge to
Catholic
schools and their formators/educators. In the light of Jesus’ commission
to preach the Gospel to all nations and the Charism, Vision-Mission
of the Congregation of the Augustinian Sisters of Our Lady of Consolation
(ASOLC); and the Church Magisterium, the Association of Schools of
the Augustinian Sisters (ASAS) has identified “Religion/Christian
Living and Theology” as the core subject in its curriculum. Religious
Education is envisioned to embrace five basic characteristics:
- Contextualized
Religious Education is deeply rooted in the faith-life experiences
of students and teachers who live in different regions of the
Philippines and foreign countries. It thus integrates history,
sociology, economic-political,
socio-cultural, and eco-feminist realities of the world, in general,
and the Philippine society, in particular. It believes that the
practice of the Christian faith is not isolated from experiences
of the community
of Jesus’ disciples (the Church of the Poor) and the signs
of the times.
- Scripture-Based
The soul of Christian Religious Education is the person and the message
of Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, and the Son of God, who is the self-manifestation
of God-self. The basic Christian message then is to be taken from the
Old and New Testaments which present the foundations and life-story,
the words and works of Jesus and the history of the First Christian
community. The stories of Jesus and the ancient Christian community
are normative to the present day Christian’s praxis of faith
and life.
- Integrated
The three dimensions of the Christian faith, DOCTRINE, MORAL,
WORSHIP (DMW) are taken individually however in an integrated
manner. While
each lesson has a definite focus, there is an integration of the
other dimensions. This integration aims to unify/harmonize
all the aspects
of faith-life realities so as to develop a “whole” Christian
person.
- Augustinian
The aspects of Augustinian spirituality that are relevant to the modern
Christian are integrated in the program. Since the Augustinian Sisters
and our schools are inspired by the spirit of the great Augustine,
his life and writings, his teachings on the interior life, community
life, love and justice are given place.
- Nationalist
As Catholic schools in the Philippines, Religious education aims to participate
in the shaping of the Filipino people’s history and life through
formal and transformative education. It can contribute to the development
of a Filipino nationalist consciousness among the students, that would
think, judge, choose and act on behalf of the Filipino people, especially
the poor.
